TRIAD Guidelines

The TRIAD editor encourages the submission of manuscripts on all phases of music education at every instructional level that are appropriate to the columns within the TRIAD. By contributing their manuscript to the TRIAD, the author is providing consent to editing of grammar, style, and content.

TRIAD SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND DEADLINES

1. The TRIAD welcomes submissions within the following categories. Maximum word limits included:

1. Please submit all articles electronically to the editor in Microsoft Word format, single-spaced, .25 inch indents, and size 12 Times New Roman font. This is the font used in TRIAD and ensures that any symbols used within an article will carry over successfully.

2. Photographs submitted with a manuscript are always welcome when they enhance the information in the text. Photo submissions must be emailed as jpeg or eps attachments, NO SMALLER than 5” X 7” and must be 300 dpi. Images within Word documents will NOT be used.

3. Authors, please be sure to include a brief bio (three or four sentences) with your submission along with a digital photo of yourself. All digital images of authors must be emailed as jpeg or eps attachments, no smaller than 2” X 3” and must be 300 dpi. Again, images within Word documents will NOT be used.

4. You may use as a guide any style manual appropriate to the type of article you are submitting. If you have questions pertaining to different style manuals, do not hesitate to contact the Editor of TRIAD.

5. Write in present tense whenever possible, and carefully check all materials for accuracy in spelling, grammar and content. Avoid generalities and complex constructions. The article will generally be more interesting, have more impact, and be more persuasive if you try to write in a straightforward, clear manner.

6. Because the editor verifies all quotations, you are to include full bibliographical information and the source of the quotation, including volume number, issue number, and page number.

7. Music examples, diagrams, graphs, and endnotes (footnotes are not to be used) must appear on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript, keyed-in to the main body of text. Do not include diagrams that are borrowed from copyrighted works. Examples must be sent as separate jpeg or pdf files. Images within Word documents will NOT be used.

8. If you refer to our professional organizations as OMEA or NAfME in an article, column, or advertisement, please do not place a punctuation mark after each letter.

9. Website and email addresses within articles will be linked automatically. Be sure to provide complete and accurate URL’s/addresses (http://… & .com, .org, .edu, etc.). OMEA is not responsible for links that do not work due to faulty addresses and/or inoperative sites. Note: The linking to commercial sites from articles and/or any site involved in sales is not permitted and will be edited out prior to the online positing of the issue/article. Listing a company name is permitted, but no phone/email/website listings (Exception: if the company to be linked is an advertiser in this TRIAD issue, the link will be permitted).

10. The Ohio Music Education Association places the highest importance in the integrity of our publications posted online. We realize that despite the competent efforts of the editor, authors, contributors, advertisers, and OMEA staff, posted content may have errors or desired alterations identified after the proofing process is completed. Once a publication is posted online, it will be considered as ‘final’, and no further changes, updates, or corrections will be made. The electronic archiving of our publications for official record is taken seriously, and all online publications should be considered equitable to print venues without alterable possibilities once posted for public viewing.

11. SCHEDULE - The submission/publication schedule for the upcoming school year is listed below. Contributors are encouraged to send their columns and articles early. Late material cannot be included and will be considered for the following issue.

Memoriam Guidelines

There are a number of special people who have contributed significantly in the service of music education in Ohio. OMEA is pleased to honor the memory of such outstanding music educators who have recently passed through publication of selected In Memoriam submissions in the TRIAD. An In Memoriam is somewhat different than an obituary in that it focuses on the memories of the writer(s) about the deceased that reflect the significance of his or her life. While these memories might be quite personal, they should summarize and/or exemplify the characteristics, activities, and qualities for which the deceased was a memorable teacher, colleague, musician, scholar, and public servant.
While there are many music educators who have touched countless lives in meaningful ways and excelled as teachers and musicians, In memoriam submissions should be made in honor of those who were known throughout Ohio for their legacy as teachers, service as OMEA members, and other achievements in music education. While all In Memoriam submissions will be respectfully considered, the TRIAD editor and OMEA trustees will determine the eligibility of submissions for publication in TRIAD. Others may be selected for publishing on the OMEA website.

Guidelines for In Memoriam submissions will be as follows:

• 1000 word maximum. Please adhere strictly to this or your submission will be returned to you.
• Include a high-quality pdf or jpeg photo file of the remembered.
• The submission should highlight the significance of the remembered as an OMEA member, participant, officer, etc.
• The submission should include thoughts of the remembered person’s colleagues, students, or other appropriate professional acquaintances.
• The submission should be made within six months of the remembered person’s passing, and is subject to the normal TRIAD submission deadlines.
• Authorship may be single or joint. If single, it is appropriate for the author to contact other appropriate contributors to represent diverse perspectives of the remembered.
• Obituaries will not be accepted.
• TRIAD is published three times per school year and as a result, there is a time void between the spring and fall issues. Rather than delay an In memoriam posting, the OMEA website will post memorials during the summer months with the fall TRIAD to also include the summer memorials.
